Popeye (R.I.P.)

by Stefanie
(Colorado Springs, CO)

Unfortunately, Popeye is no longer with me, he died in January of 2005. He was also an all white boxer. We purchased him from the local Humane society when he was about 2 years old. They failed to tell us he was deaf when we bought him. My husband surprised us with him one day and needless to say I was not happy, and when he wouldn't listen to any of our commands and got into the trash can one day while we were gone and drug trash all over the house and did his business right by the front door, that was it for me I wanted him gone! Then one day we realized he was deaf when he was sleeping and didn't flinch when we called him, we thought he was dead but then he woke up and that put a whole new light on how we needed to interact with him. Long story short, we absolutely fell in love with him, he was the best dog I have ever owned. Because he was deaf sometimes he could be a little skittish with strangers or people he did not know real well but this had nothing to do with him being all white it was because he was deaf. He thought he was a lap dog, he was so lovable he wanted to sit in your lap and be as close to you as he could. He was great with our 2 young boys at the time also, once we realized he was deaf. We decided to buy another puppy boxer a few years later, a friend for Popeye, her name was Hannah, he didn't like her at first but soon realized that she could be his ears, he responded to her every move, she kept him in the loop, he now knew more of what was going on! We had the pleasure of his company and love for about 9 years not nearly long enough, and Hannah we only had for 6 years, she too got sick and died the very same year, I think she missed him very much. I can't say enough about boxers, I think they are the best kind of breed for anyone that can give them lot's of love and affection and they are also the best with kids, we never had a problem with the dogs and kids. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures on this computer I can upload for you all. Just wanted to tell everyone how wonderful BOXERS are! They do require lot's of love and can be hyper if they don't get lot's of exercise, but overall, you won't find a better friend!

Our God is soooo loving & merciful. It's possible that one day He could reunite us with our beloved pets that have passed on.

I also had issues with my dog once my wife moved in with baby. But they do grow on you and its funny how attached you get.
